A hoard of Vikings will descend on the Avalon Archaeolgy site on Sunday 23rd of July to celebrate the Festival of British Archaeology. The Draca Beordor re-enactment group will take over the longhall and the surrounding area in typical Viking fashion and will be demonstrating a range of Viking crafts, clothing, arms and armour. Lots to see and an opportunity to dress like a Viking for a selfie on the Viking ship. Deniscan werede on Wesseaxna lond as they used to say (possibly). Its also International Bog Day, so take the opportunity to visit the local wetland nature reserves as well.

Many thanks for the Avalon Arch. emails which invite readers to events. Sadly, each time I receive info for one of these, the date already clashes with another commitment and so I’m unable to attend!
Is it possible to send out well in advance a list of dates for your interesting events and with luck I can then hope to rearrange my diary? For instance, will the Vikings come back this year after invading on 23rd July??
Or might there be plans this year to return to the Romans and beyond in time? Also, it would be good to know if the venue might be able to continue opening some weekends in autumn and winter as well as in spring and summer?
All the upcoming events are listed on the main website https://swheritage.org.uk/avalon-archaeology/whats-on/
There is a Roman themed day on 13th August, Ancient Music on 28th August and Ancient Games Day on 3rd of September
That’s really interesting, thanks.
