Every Viking knew how important it was to go to sea well oiled. The volunteers have given the thirsty Walrus a new coat of linseed oil inside and out to keep her from cracking up. The sea going replica of the same Skudelev 3 ship, made in the Viking Museum boatyard at Roskilde (Denmark) had a 30 year life with a few repairs, and tender loving care such as regular oiling. They have recently made a new replica, the Estrid Byrding, launched May 2025. Our Walrus is a waterline replica, originally made for the National Maritime Museum in Falmouth.
