When is a roundhouse not round?

Work on the Iron Age roundhouse has continued with the walls and roof dome all now sufficiently woven with hazel. The short ridge line, coupled with the porch inset into the wall, combine to mean that the roof will not be circular, even though the walls are. The daubing of the walls has begun on the porch, using a clay and hay mix and an ammonite fossil. A piece of daub with an impression of an ammonite in it was found at the Glastonbury Lake Village but it is uncertain what sort of pattern was built up from this unique piece of evidence for roundhouse decoration, so we are making some up. The daub looks dark but will dry to a light grey.
