The joy of daub

We are now using a different subsoil mix for the roundhouse daub. A bit sandier in composition, making it a lot easier to mix and apply than the previous clay but still liable to a little cracking. Two days of daubing by the volunteers have completed two thirds of the circuit. We will probably eventually cover up the original blue-grey clay because it cracked so badly. We have also been playing around with the ammonite decoration that was evidenced from the Glastonbury Lake Village excavations. Bit by bit the hut interior darkens.
