Wildlife mosaic challenge

Within the mosaic floor of the Roman building, there are a series of five roundels, based on the design of the nearby Hurcot mosaic. These would often be filled with geometric shapes but for the Avalon Marshes version local wildlife groups were asked to nominate something for depiction. We were hoping for something simple, like a white cattle egret, but what we got back were;

Natural England – an otter. RSPB – a bittern. Hawk and Owl Trust – peregrine falcon and Somerset Wildlife Trust – 4 spot chaser dragonfly. Bit of a challenge there!
