Floor repair

The rammed earth floor in the Saxon longhall has stood up to wear incredibly well but in one place two unsightly indented lines developed on the borders between batches of floor material. It appears that one load did not contain properly sieved subsoil in its mix, as it has worn to a ‘stony ‘ finish. A quick repair was made of the two patches after taking out the original material. They are now lovely and smooth and will gradually lighten in colour as the lime in the mix oxidises. The trouble is that the bit between looks a bit rough, so that may have to be replaced too.
