Saxon mural

The mural of Alfred and the Vikings on the longhall wall is coming along nicely too. If you live in Somerset, see if you can find your location on the Saxon map, which highlights the four burhs (fortified settlements) Alfred built to defend against the Vikings. Watchet on the coast and Axbridge, Lyng/Athelney, and Langport defending the first bridging points on the Rivers Axe (and Brue), Tone and Parrett, ie where Viking fleets could be stopped. Taunton is depicted as somewhat of a hovel – no offence meant. And yes, goats were that big then.
