Fiends, floors and fakery

A busy week. Mike’s superb carving of Grendel’s arm is ready for painting before it takes its rightful place above his carvings of the Beowulf story (Beowulf ripped the arm off the fiend Grendel and nailed it up in the longhall). One to terrify the children. The big task was clearing out the longhall and laying a rammed earth floor (clay subsoil, one tenth lime, a bit of stone and some straw or hay).

Meanwhile in the Roman building fresco work continued on the Diana (the godess not the Princess) side of the room with fake marbling , whacky imitation stonework and 3D pillars.
