Work has started on the renewal of the roundhouse after the destruction of the partly built mark1 version in the winter storms. The use of relatively small willow posts for the walls is based on evidence from recent excavations at the Iron Age Glastonbury Lake Village site. In the Saxon longhall the mural is rapidly approaching the half way point with the completion of the central border, reflecting decoration from the Lindisfarne Gospels.





No doubt there were winter storms when people actually lived in such roundhouses…
The mark 1 was only partly built when the storm hit so was not as robust as a finished house would be
